I do not watch voting shows. They’ve never been my thing. When the world was captivated by shows like American Idol & SYTYCD, I was the odd woman out. Maybe it was my short attention span, maybe it just wasn’t for me at the time.

However, I somehow got sucked in to watching America’s Got Talent. I had nothing else to watch & if nothing else, it was bonding time for me & my mom.

After one episode, I was hooked. And I don’t know why. It could have been the variety of talent on the stage during each episode. It’s also quite possible that I was really really bored. But somehow, each episode was even better than the one before it. To watch each individual share their gift with the world & risk it all for a shot at making their dream come true was to reignite the passion inside of me to continue to push for my own dreams. In fact, AGT affected me in such a positive way that I came up with 5 lessons learned about being a dreamer just from watching this show.

Dreams take hard work & sacrifice to make them a reality

There really is no secret here. It shouldn’t even come as a surprise. To achieve your dream, you have got to work for it. It won’t always been in walk in the park, if at all. Dreams take blood, sweat & tears for them to manifest. The sacrifice? Time, money, sleep. Go ahead & pick one because it’s coming. Trust me.

You’re never too old (or too young)

Contestants of ALL ages & life stages showed up with their talents. Age ain’t nothing but a number. I truly believe that having at least one dream that you’re working toward keeps you young.

Each of us has a unique gift to share with the world

I briefly mentioned this already but we are all unique – every last person in the world. There is no one else like you. Many people may do what you do but ONLY YOU can do it the way you can. And that’s special. There’s something to be said about being uniquely created with unique gifts.

Pursuing your dream can have a positive, long-lasting effect not only for yourself but for others as well

Think of a time where you achieved something you’ve been working extremely hard for – how did that make you feel in that moment? When you recall that accomplishment, how does it make you feel in the present? How are the people around you who know & love you affected? You may be someone’s role model & you didn’t even know it.

The world is your stage. Enjoy each moment as if it’s your last.

In other words…YOLO. While you are working very hard chasing your dreams, don’t forget to live in the moment. Take a moment to just BE. Take it all in & enjoy the journey on your way to the top. There are many lessons to be learned on the way, but more than anything, remain grateful for the dream placed in your heart.

Save for Later <3
